Guerrilla
On random date but twice to 3 times a week we have a competition between the planets.
The rules in one line
Each colony has it's planet flag (blazon). The planet that has collected most of the others' flags wins.
The rules explained
As we know, there are three planets in the game: Terra Nova, Kepler and Maru.
Initially each colony on TN has a (T) flag, each colony on Kepler has (K) flag and each colony on Maru has (M) flag.
The start and end dates vary from one Guerrilla to another. They are displayed on Guerrilla's screen. A Guerilla lasts from 48 to 96 hours, and two Guerrillas are spaced out from a truce period, ranging from 12 to 36 hours. A Guerrilla always starts at the beginning of the hour, and ends at the end of the hour, and only the end date of the fight is taken into account for these times.
During the time of the competition the players should fight down the colonies on the other planets to rob their flags. One colony can have up to three flags: one for each planet.
So you need to keep your T flag and get the K and M flags for the complete set. Each achieved flag brings you and the planet 1 point.
To make things more fun, there are bonus targets (objectives) for each colony in every competition. If the player has the bonus flag at the end of the guerilla, another point is added to the score upon the final score counting. Players who collected both bonus flags receive another extra point with the total of 6 points:
- 1 point for keeping own flag
- 2 points for K bonus flag
- 2 points for M bonus flag
- 1 point for getting both bonus flags
This is the ideal scenario, in reality it is quite hard to get the maximum points, mainly because flags can be stolen.
If a player from another planet fights your colony and gets one of your flags, you lose the corresponding point. Each taken flag brings you 1 point. Some players play "ping pong" taking then losing then taking again flag allowing to score more than 6 points
So, who is the winner?
At the end of Guerrilla the points are counted and then comes the ratio part. The planets have different number of colonies, so if we compare the pure numbers, the winner most probably would be the planet with most colonies on it, as they can collect more points altogether. To straighten things up the authors of the game invented a planet ratio that is applied to the final score and is calculated as the score divided by the number of colonies eligible for Guerrilla participation (officer ranks, not hibernated).
For example, if a planet has 25 colonies and collected 25 points, it's final score is 25 / 25 = 1. Another planet has 14 colonies and collected 20 points - it's final score is 20 / 14 = 1.43 and it wins.
